Visit of the Ksar Amazrou, an old fortified village which dates from the 16th century and houses an old mosque and old synagogue nearby, testifying to the tolerance and community life of the three Amazigh ethnic components Ait Atta Dawa or population from sub-Saharan Africa and Jewish traders and jewelers in the time
At the foot of the mountain of Zagora, about 3 kilometers southeast of the city of the same name, the ksar of Amezrou (or "Amazraou") is well worth a detour. This traditional fortified village dates from the 18th century and is very well preserved. It is still inhabited and can be visited very easily. Just enter through one of the gates of the two main bastions: north and south of the village.
During your visit, enter the small synagogue of Amezrou, witness to the time when the ksar was inhabited by a large Jewish community. Also take an interest in silver work – the specialty of the ksar. Jewelry is indeed the traditional craft of Ksar Amezrou. The silver is melted in clay moulds, then the jewels are hand-crafted by local craftsmen who decorate them with Berber motifs, sometimes with African motifs.
The ksar of Amezrou faces a palm grove, contrasting with the ocher color of the mountain and the ksar. The panorama is magnificent and exotic. To admire this authentic place in Morocco, you will need to rent a car in Ouarzazate and drive about three hours to the southeast.
